Blue-ray Disc Reach 100GB

Although Blu-ray format has not yet reached the level of popularity of DVD, we all know that is the future, so it was confirmed that the capacity of their albums will be doubled thanks to the new 100GB disks developed by Sharp, TDK and Verbatim.

Unlike other technology rumours, this news is already a fact, since it was confirmed that Sharp who will start selling Blu-ray first with 100GB of capacity in Japan in the coming hours.

The new VR-100BR1 disc can be written only once and is associated with the format specifications BDXL, which was announced only three months ago by the Blu-ray Disc Association.

For its part, TDK said it would start selling the new discs in September, while Verbatim will in the first months of 2011, giving a major advantage leading rivals in the market.

Blu-ray discs can store 25GB present in a single housing or 50GB on dual models. In this case, the 100GB drive adds a third layer of storage to cover the difference.

Before you go to buy these discs have to clarify that the format-based multimedia BDXL could reach 128GB by adding a fourth layer, but these files are not compatible with current Blu-ray players.

Considering this issue, Sharp announced the launch of new Aquos Blu-ray BD-HDW700/BD-HDW70 that can record data on the new media. These recorders will be available in Japan from next week.

It speculates that the new recorders BDXL be used to store important data in addition to video and images.
